Disk space and bandwidth are two fundamental resources included in your hosting plan. Understanding how they work helps you manage your hosting effectively and avoid unexpected limitations.
Disk Space
Disk space is the total amount of storage available on the server for your account. It includes:
- Website files (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, videos, documents)
- Email messages and attachments stored on the server
- MySQL and other databases
- Log files generated by the server
- Backups stored within your account
How to Check Disk Usage
1. Log in to your control panel.
2. Look for a "Disk Usage" or "Storage" section on the dashboard.
3. You will see a breakdown showing which items consume the most space.
Tips to Reduce Disk Usage
- Compress large images before uploading.
- Delete old email messages and empty the trash.
- Remove unused databases and tables.
- Clean up old backups and log files.
- Remove unused plugins, themes, and temporary files.
Bandwidth (Data Transfer)
Bandwidth is the total amount of data transferred between your hosting account and visitors over a billing period. Every action that serves data uses bandwidth:
- A visitor loading your homepage and its images
- Downloading a file from your site
- Sending and receiving emails
- FTP uploads and downloads
- API calls to and from your server
How Bandwidth Is Measured
Bandwidth resets at the beginning of each billing period. For example, if your plan includes 100 GB of bandwidth per month, the counter resets to zero on your billing date.
What Happens at the Limit
Disk Space: If you reach your disk space limit, you will not be able to upload new files, receive new emails, or create new database entries until you free up space or upgrade your plan.
Bandwidth: If you reach your bandwidth limit, your website may become temporarily unavailable until the next billing period begins or you upgrade your plan. We send notifications as you approach your limits so you can take action.
Upgrading
If you regularly approach your limits, consider upgrading to a higher plan. Upgrades are prorated and take effect immediately. Navigate to your service details and click "Upgrade" to see available options.
