Setting up your first website can feel overwhelming, but it is a straightforward process when broken into clear steps. This guide walks you through everything from registering a domain to publishing your content.
Step 1: Register a Domain Name
Your domain name is your website address (e.g., www.example.com). Choose a name that is memorable, relevant to your business, and easy to spell. You can search for and register domains directly through our client area.
Step 2: Choose a Hosting Plan
Select a hosting plan that fits your needs. For a new website or blog, our starter plans provide plenty of resources. If you expect high traffic or need advanced features, consider our premium plans. You can always upgrade later.
Step 3: Point Your Domain to Your Hosting
If you registered your domain with us, it will be automatically configured. If your domain is registered elsewhere, update the nameservers at your domain registrar to point to our servers. Nameserver details are provided in your welcome email.
Step 4: Upload Your Website Files
You have several options for adding content to your website:
- Install a CMS: Use our one-click installer to set up WordPress, Joomla, or other popular platforms.
- Upload via File Manager: Use the built-in file manager in your control panel to upload HTML, CSS, and other files.
- Upload via FTP: Connect with an FTP client like FileZilla to upload files in bulk.
Step 5: Configure Your Website
Once your files are uploaded or your CMS is installed:
- Set up your homepage and navigation.
- Add your content (pages, blog posts, images).
- Configure your site title, description, and other settings.
- Install any plugins or themes you need.
Step 6: Enable SSL
Secure your website with a free SSL certificate. Navigate to the SSL section in your control panel and activate Let's Encrypt. This enables HTTPS and shows the padlock icon to visitors.
Step 7: Test Your Website
Before announcing your site, test it thoroughly:
- Visit your domain in a browser to verify it loads correctly.
- Test all links and forms.
- Check that images display properly.
- Verify the site looks good on mobile devices.
